01 · Why it works

Why landowners let me on their land

Good for landowners who do not want another paid contract or formal pest control arrangement.

The work is planned around when pests move, not when the yard is busiest.

This matters on farms where gates, stock, dogs, machinery, tracks, and footpaths all need respecting.

02 · What I cover

The work I do, in plain terms

Tap or hover a job to see where it helps most.

Where it helps

Feed stores, grain sheds, livestock buildings, muck areas, yard edges, bankings, waste areas, and sites where rats are active after dark.

Where it helps

Horse paddocks, grazing land, grass margins, young tree planting, banks, hedgerows, and land where holes are becoming a risk.

Where it helps

Open sheds, barns, feed stores, machinery bays, and sites where fouling is becoming a hygiene issue.

Where it helps

Tipping bays, skip lines, yard edges, fence lines, banks, and areas where rats are active after the site closes.

Where it helps

Large land blocks, estate yards, game cover edges, paddocks, outbuildings, woodland edges, and rural sites that need someone trusted over time.

03 · About Gregg

One bloke, one rifle, a lot of fields.

Gregg · on site, working farm

I have been catching pests since I was a kid. I set up Protecta Pest Control Ltd as a proper licensed business so I could do this work for a living, and that side handles houses, restaurants, food sites and commercial jobs where there is paperwork, records and proper reporting.

Pest Free Farm came out of the fact that I would rather be out in a field at midnight than almost anywhere else. Farmers and landowners kept asking if I could come and shoot rats and rabbits. I started saying yes, for free, on land where I was made welcome.

So that is what this is. A free service, run by me, on rural ground where pests are causing problems. I use air rifles fitted with thermal and night vision optics. Most of the shooting happens after dark because that is when rats and rabbits are out.

I am not the cheapest option on the market because I am not an option on the market. I am not selling anything. If you have got land in Derbyshire, South Yorkshire or North Nottinghamshire and you want pest numbers down, get in touch.

"I have been catching pests since I was a boy. This is the work I know best, and I would rather be out doing it than sat at home."

04 · Land I cover

Land I cover

Working farms of any size, smallholdings, paddocks, stables, equestrian yards, food storage and distribution sites, waste and recycling sites, large rural estates and private landowners. If it has a pest problem and it is outdoors, it is probably my kind of job.

05 · What's different

How this is different from a pest control firm

01

No invoice, no contract, no quotes. The service is genuinely free.

02

Air rifle work only. No rodenticide on free visits, so there is nothing left behind for dogs, owls or buzzards.

03

One person on your land, not a team. You know who is turning up.

04

Mostly night work, so I am not under your feet during the day.

05

If the problem is bigger than rifle work can handle, I will tell you straight and you can decide what you want to do next.

Agreed before any visit

Before any visit, we agree where I can go, what is off limits, where stock are, where dogs are, and what areas need avoiding. If something is not safe or suitable, I do not take the shot.

06 · How it works

How a free visit works

01

You get in touch

Phone or send a message. Tell me where you are and what the problem is. Rough is fine.

02

I have a look

I come out for a walk round, usually within a week. We talk about what is going on and what is worth doing.

03

I do the work

Night sessions, fitted around your operation. You do not have to be there if you do not want to be.

04

I come back

Pest numbers build back up over time. I come back when you ask, or on a rough schedule we agree.

08 · Questions

Common questions

Yes. No call-out charge, no per-visit fee, no quote at the end. I am not selling anything on the side and I will not be asking for payment in any form.

I enjoy this work and I want regular ground to shoot over. The more land I am welcome on, the better. That is it. I would rather be out at night than watching telly.

I am the owner of Protecta Pest Control Ltd, a licensed pest control business. I carry public liability through that company, and I hold BASC insurance. I am happy to show paperwork before any work starts.

I am a licensed firearms holder. Air rifles fitted with night vision scopes, and a separate thermal monocular for spotting. Quiet, careful, and suited to rural sites where control needs to be carried out with permission.

Sometimes for rabbits at dawn or dusk. Most of the work happens after dark because that is when rats and rabbits are out and moving.

Fair question. Night vision and thermal help with clear identification before any shot is taken. We agree what is off limits before I start: pets, gamebirds, neighbours' livestock, footpaths, roads, buildings, or anything else you want left alone.

No. Pest Free Farm free visits are air rifle work only. If a site needs a paid pest control programme with baiting, records, monitoring, or compliance paperwork, that sits separately under Protecta Pest Control Ltd.
